Analytic workloads and the ability to determine “what happened” are some of the most common use cases across enterprises today. Cloudera Navigator Optimizer

One of the most significant additions in this release is the general availability of Cloudera Navigator Optimizer. Cloudera Enterprise and Hadoop are a great complement to existing data warehouses – able to relieve the pressures of these systems, while providing flexibility and enabling new workloads. Additionally, with Impala as the interactive SQL engine, Cloudera’s platform provides a high-performance, scalable alternative to traditional analytic databases – allowing businesses to tap into more value from more data, faster. However, this means you need to understand which workloads are the best fit for which system so you can predictably offload the ones desired and then actively optimize data models based on Hadoop usage and technologies. This can be a daunting task, especially with the limited usage visibility most database administrators (DBAs) have into their legacy systems today. Cloudera Navigator Optimizer changes that.

Navigator Optimizer ensures you start off on the right foot for using Hadoop as an analytic database and then easily keep up with the changing needs of your business. This tool analyzes your existing SQL workloads, giving you the necessary insights and risk-assessments into workloads across a business to build out a comprehensive strategy and plan for offloading based on risk and development costs. Once you’ve migrated the appropriate ETL and BI workloads, Navigator Optimizer provides continued visibility into changing usage so DBAs can actively manage and recommend data models for peak performance with Hadoop technologies such as Apache Hive and Apache Impala (incubating).

High-Performance Analytics in the Cloud

Improving the SQL Development Experience

Hue, the popular web interface for analyzing data in Hadoop, has also gotten an upgrade with this latest release, providing an improved user experience for SQL developers. Within a single interface, these developers can now easily explore and discover what tables are available through a quickview of the data; more quickly design queries with autocomplete suggestions; and get immediate assistance for debugging queries before they run for efficient troubleshooting. In addition, queries and results can be seamlessly shared with other users and groups, with the ability to directly set access permissions on results for fast security protection.
