In just a few short years, Hadoop’s scope and mission have rapidly expanded. Customers no longer view Hadoop as just inexpensive storage that supports a massively parallel batch-processing framework, but rather as a foundation for critical business processing and sophisticated real-time analytics on an enterprise-wide basis. However, in last year’s blog, Turn Your ‘Data Lake’ into an Enterprise Data Hub, Cloudera’s chief strategy officer Mike Olson described how, despite Hadoop’s importance in the data management market, many customers have attempted/started to consolidate all their data into one single data repository – a ‘data lake’.
Some data lakes, as we have seen frequently, are based on EMC Isilon.
Today, we are very excited to announce that in addition to the certification of the latest Cloudera Enterprise 5.4.x on Isilon OneFS 7.2.x, Cloudera was chosen to join the EMC Technology Connect – Select program, EMC’s strategic business partner validated products program. Customers can license Cloudera Enterprise directly from EMC, giving them a path to quickly implement an in-place data analytics framework on top of an existing Isilon data lake.
In the past, Isilon customers wanting to leverage data in Isilon for big data analysis were required to copy data from the existing NAS-based Isilon into a separate Hadoop file system—which was cost prohibitive and time consuming. In the past year, with Cloudera and EMC’s joint engineering efforts, EMC Isilon’s scale-out NAS customers have been enjoying the ability to run Cloudera Enterprise on their data sitting within Isilon.
This joint solution, certified and supported by components of Cloudera Enterprise, including Spark and Impala, allows organizations to query data files that reside directly on Isilon storage to generate business insight. Financial services companies, for example, build critical risk models with Hadoop; healthcare companies rely on Hadoop to improve patient outcomes and reduce the cost of care; and consumer companies rely on Hadoop to power applications woven into everyday lives.
Yet Cloudera and Isilon’s commitment to customer success does not stop there. To ensure Isilon field technical personnel have the ability to address all sorts of big data challenges and support various requirements, Isilon has committed to certify over 100 of their strongest field technical personnel, the Isilon “Black Belt” team, in Cloudera Administrator and other Cloudera University certifications.
So, in addition to all the joint technology efforts with EMC, being selected to join EMC’s Technology Connect program is just another indication of EMC’s trust in Cloudera as the leader in the big data market. We are committed to our ongoing joint customer success, by making it easier than ever to design, procure, and deploy entire big data platforms with on-going support. , EMC and Cloudera are committed to being the best partner in shaping our customers’ data strategies.
