Around the World with Cloudera and Partners

Categories: Partners

Spring is an exciting time for Cloudera and our partner ecosystem, with many high-profile announcements and big data industry events going on simultaneously. In addition to a strong presence at Strata+Hadoop World at London next week, Clouderans are out in force to support our partners at major industry events and user conferences all over the globe.  I won’t try to list all the industry events of this busy season at which Cloudera has a presence, as I’m sure to omit some. But I want to highlight a few major announcements and partner conferences, as proof of the strength and impact of Cloudera’s industry-leading Hadoop ecosystem. In the upcoming weeks, you will hear from Clouderans on how the emphasis of big data has shifted from platform and technology focused, to business solutions focused. And yet we cannot do it alone. We are privileged to have our partners, the world’s most trusted information technology and solutions companies, and are grateful for the opportunity to support them and our mutual customers in myriad ways.

Strata+Hadoop World at London is the fourth of the Strata+Hadoop World conference series since Cloudera and O’Reilly Media announced our expanded partnership last October. New York, Barcelona, and most recently San Jose have established Strata+Hadoop World as the premier big data industry conference series globally, with more industry participation and higher impact than any other conferences. London will continue the tradition and has sold out with over 1,000 attendees. Clouderans will be delivering over 20 presentations, including several keynotes. The Cloudera booth will be at the center of the action, with a multitude of high profile partner presentations. And of course, the crowd favorite “Data is the New Bacon” Cloudera tee shirts will fly off the shelves.

With that, let’s look back into what we’ve done to kick off the spring season with our partners. Just last week Cloudera participated at Teradata Universe in Amsterdam for the first time, which gave us the opportunity to showcase Cloudera’s enterprise data hub to the Teradata user community. In the opening keynote, Teradata QueryGrid and Aster certifications on Cloudera were also announced.  These certifications further extend our partnership and role with Teradata and facilitate customers’ access to multiple data sources in the Teradata’s Unified Data Architecture. Of course, we will continue our trip and carry the conversation to Teradata Universe at Shenzhen next week.

Moving on to this week, Cloudera’s own co-founder and CSO Mike Olson joined SAS CEO Jim Goodnight and other industry luminaries for a keynote panel at the SAS Global Forum and Executive Conference in Dallas. Check out the replay here for an insightful discussion about how Hadoop is evolving from an IT solution to the engine that powers the modern analytic architecture. Mike also gave a SAS Talk on the critical role that Hadoop plays in healthcare. I also want to thank Bob Zurek from Epsilon, who gave two very well-received presentations at the event focusing on how Cloudera and SAS together are helping Epsilon customers provide better customer service and brand engagement through big data.

The partner momentum continues next week. At SAP SAPPHIRE NOW in Orlando, Cloudera is partnering closely with SAP, Capgemini, and Intel to bring new solution foundations to our joint customers.  I can’t say much more now, but if you’re at SAPPHIRE, be sure to stop by Cloudera’s booth to learn more.

Moving on to the Cloud side, as a result of our growing partnership with Microsoft, Cloudera is participating for the first time this week at Microsoft’s annual developer conference, Microsoft Build in San Francisco, where we joined the ecosystem in the announcement of Azure Data Lake, a solution built for the Cloud, compatible with HDFS. Then as we move towards next week and turn our focus to the more business-oriented crowd, Cloudera will also join Intel at Microsoft Ignite in Chicago, where 20,000+ people are expected to attend to learn all things Microsoft.

And of course that is not all. Next week also marks the one year anniversary of our strategic partnership with, and major investment by, Intel. On May 5th, Cloudera CEO, Tom Reilly will join Intel Senior Vice President and General Manager, Diane Bryant on stage for Intel’s Transforming Business event in San Francisco, with a live webcast available for all around the world to participate. Tom and Diane will discuss the trends and industry use cases around big data, and review and celebrate the first year of Cloudera and Intel’s transformational partnership.

Last but certainly not least, our presence at EMC World in Las Vegas next week is just one manifestation of our strategic relationship with EMC. On Monday, Hadoop creator and Cloudera Chief Architect Doug Cutting and CSO Mike Olson will deliver the keynote “guru session” on the EMC World main stage. Doug will treat us to a brief and personal history of Hadoop and talk about the strength and importance of open source software development model. Mike will describe emerging trends and best practices in big data. Then we’ll learn real world insights and see a solution demonstration, from a Cloudera customer panel representing financial services (Capitol One), telecommunications (DigitalGlobe), and health care (Cerner). Cloudera has also been invited to present our joint solution at the EMC Emerging Technologies Division booth on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. And of course, we’ll have a significant booth presence on the exhibit floor.

As enterprises are embracing EMC’s ecosystem-centric vision of the Business Data Lake, we are working with our mutual customers and mutual Hadoop ecosystem partners to deliver on that vision. Our strong engineering collaboration with EMC continues, as we work together to deliver the full functionality of the Cloudera enterprise data hub on the EMC Isilon platform.

As you can see from this abbreviated list of partner-driven activities, supporting our strategic partners is a full time job for many of us here at Cloudera. We are glad to do it, and are grateful in return for the incredible support Cloudera receives from these companies, and from our mutual customers. Just take a look at the incredible roster of partners sponsoring our Cloudera Sessions world tour, and you’ll see why.

We look forward to seeing many of you next week, in London, Shenzhen, Las Vegas, Orlando, or any other city where our paths may cross. Safe travels from your friends and partners at Cloudera.
